Joining the Peoples Bank & Trust Family Has Never Been Easier!
Thinking about switching to Peoples Bank but not sure what to do first? No worries, it’s simpler than ever! Whether you're looking for better rates, personalized customer service, or modern digital tools, we’re here to make switching effortless and hassle-free. At Peoples Bank, we make it easy to open an account that fits your financial needs.
Step 1: open your new PB&T account
Apply online in minutes or stop by any branch to get started in person.
- Social Security number
- Valid ID (driver's license, state ID or passport)
- The ability to fund your new account. This can be done with cash, check or money order in person. If you're opening your account online, you will need your routing number and account number from an existing account to fund your new account.
You’ll also be asked for your date of birth, phone number and email address. This is all a part of a crucial step in confirming your identity. Please note, you must be a resident of the United States of America and at least 18 years old to open an account online.
Step 2: enroll in digital banking
download our mobile app for easy account access from anywhere!
Step 3: Redirect Automatic Transactions & Direct Deposits
Take inventory of your automatic transactions
These types of transactions are great because they make your life easier, but are also important to get moved over to your new Peoples Bank account. We recommend taking a look at several months' worth of transactions since some automated deposits/withdrawals occur quarterly, semiannually or even annually.
Here are some items to keep in mind as you're taking inventory:
- Automated deposits: direct deposits of paychecks or business income, alimony or child support payments and government benefits like Social Security.
- Automatic bill payments: including mortgages, utilities, credit cards and student loans
- Recurring subscription payments: things like streaming services or gym memberships
- Scheduled transfers to and from external accounts: these might include contributions to individual retirement accounts or health savings accounts
- Linked services online: services like PayPal, Venmo, websites you shop often and your mobile wallet will need to be updated with your new bank account or new debit card information.
Once you know what is coming in and out of your account, now it's time to start redirecting these transactions to your new Peoples Bank & Trust account. For direct deposits, you'll need to reach out to the source of the funds, such as your Employer or government website, and update your bank account information on file. You will need Peoples Bank & Trust's routing number: 081910232 and your new account number.
You'll also want to set up automatic bill payments through your Peoples Bank & Trust's Online/Mobile Banking. Be sure to update old account and debit card information stored with service providers like Venmo, Amazon, Netflix, etc.
Step 4: verify transactions & close your old account
you're almost there, but don't close that old account just yet!
It's a good idea to keep your old account up and running for an additional month or two to ensure all the automatic deposits and payments are coming in and out of your new account. Once you're sure everything is running out of your new Peoples Bank & Trust account, transfer any remaining money in your old account to your new one.
To officially close your old bank account, depending on the bank's procedures, you may be able to reach out over the phone, online or stop by in person. The Consumer Financial Protect Bureau recommends getting a written document confirming the account has been closed to help prevent you from becoming a victim of fraud. Cut up or shred any debit cards or checks associated with your former financial institution.
And that's it! Now you're ready to enjoy being a part of the Peoples Bank & Trust Family!
We recommend getting familiar with our Online/Mobile Banking services so you can keep tabs on your account balances, transactions and enroll new payees for bill pay as needed. Also, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have or as your financial needs grow and change, we're here to help!
