Peoples Bank and Trust Co. was founded in 1924,
as Peoples Bank of Hawk Point. It was the successor
to the Bank of Hawk Point which was founded in
the late 1800s. Peoples Bank was one of the few
banks in the area to survive the Great Depression
of the 1930s and only closed during the period
that President Roosevelt declared the bank holiday,
briefly closing all banks in the country.
In 1978, Peoples Bank of Hawk Point purchased
Citizens Bank of Troy. On December 18, 1978, the
name was changed to Peoples Bank of Lincoln County
and the main offices opened in Troy, MO at the
present location of 430 E. Wood. Over the years,
numerous additions have been made and PB&T
is now a 3-story building with separate Bookkeeping
and IT Department additions.
In 1990, a second facility was built on Hwy 47
in Troy. Due to the expanding volume, a larger
building was needed shortly thereafter. The present
location at #9 Troy Square was built in 1995 and
continues to serve the residents and businesses
on the northern part of the town.
The decision was made to open a branch in St.
Charles County due to the westward expansion of
the county. O'Fallon, MO was selected as the building
site and business opened on October 1, 1996. Today
that location continues to grow both in deposits
and loans.
In 1998, Peoples Bank & Trust absorbed a new
branch from Winfield Banking Company, which made
the bank havefive
locations: Troy, Troy Facility, Hawk Point O’Fallon
and Winfield.
In an effort to continue to offer new products
and services to our customers and community, Peoples
Bank purchased Vacations Travel Agency in 2001.
This business is housed in the lobby of the Main
Bank at 430 E. Wood and does about $1 million
in travel sales each year.
On March 1, 2005, Peoples Bank & Trust opened
a new branch in Elsberry, MO in order to meet
the needs of customers in northern Lincoln County.
PB&T's latest expansion has been in Bowling
Green, MO. On September 21, 2007, Peoples Bank
& Trust opened its first location in Pike
County on Business Highway 61. Construction is
currently underway on a new building for this
branch and occupation is expected by Fall of 2008.
PB&T currently employs approximately 150 employees
throughout its seven branches and has over $350
million in assets.
